“When the world gives you lemons, make lemonade!”
We have all heard this phrase so many times it may
have lost its powerful message—but take a minute and
think about it. When times are tough we have only two
choices; we can give up, whine, and use the “woe is
me” card OR we can buckle down, work smarter, and
think outside the box. The second option is what Drs.
Marc and Eli Schwartz are doing by adding elective,
cosmetic facial procedures to their dental practice.”
Dr. Marc Schwartz recently completed training
on the use of Botox and Juvederm, and said it was
a “natural for dentists, since we are so comfortable
giving injections and do it daily”. The trainer even
mentioned how quickly he learned the techniques
compared to physicians, who rarely give injections
themselves. Not only did Marc complete the training,
which is only step one, he immediately began
marketing the services using similar techniques to
those he uses to market cosmetic dentistry: they
held a “Spa Day” for patients and guests with an
introductory special of 15% off, placed marketing
brochures throughout the office, featured the
procedures in his monthly newsletter, sent email
blasts to his patients through Smile Reminders, and
is continuing to offer a 10% promotion through
year-end. He is definitely making lemonade!!
Here is one of his first cases where he injected Botox
into the Levator muscles of the mouth at the ala of
the nose on both sides to help correct a “gummy smile”
and Juvederm filler to enhance the lips of his patient,
Chele. As you can see, she’s one happy lady, who will
definitely be sharing her experience with others.

Tips from Dennis’ October
visit to LVI
Dr. Joe Cornatzer, Becden’s client, shared this tip
during my visit to support him during his case insert
at LVI. “If contacts are slightly tight, take a piece of
floss, rub it between a folded sheet of articulating
paper so it picks up the blue ink, then floss the
contact. It will mark perfectly the tight area only
for your contact adjustment on the restoration.”
Dr. David Dooley, Joe’s instructor, had another great
tip. When gaining the patient’s approval of the case
during the try-in stage he asks the patient to give
a “thumbs up” if he or she approves the case and
takes a quick photo of the try-in with thumbs up,
and keeps it in the patient’s record should he ever
need to remind the patient.
