Testimonials

“I enjoyed visiting your beautiful laboratory and having the opportunity to meet the people involved in making Becden so successful! I was very impressed with the systems in place from the level of quality control to the state of the art technology. WOW! I just wished I had more time to “shadow” the technicians and admire their work.

Dr. Miller is such a wealth of knowledge and I am grateful to have an opportunity to meet him in person.”
—Dr. Sunee Salpetchniyom, Springfield, VA

“I learned a great deal from all the presentations and the “Over-The-Shoulder” portion with Dr. Ed Miller was particularly helpful. I now have much to reflect on when dreaming of a vision of my practice. In doing so, I realized while many aspects of customer service were discussed, one need look no further than Becden as an example of the “WOW” factor. Thanks again for your hospitality during my visit, it was second to none!”
—Dr. Mark Lemonnier, Fredrick, MD

Technical Tip:
Save Time At The Chair and Let Your Patients "Test Drive" Their Smile

By Dennis Vasquez and Dr. Ed Miller, Becden’s Clinical Advisor

Temporization of a 10-unit Smile Makeover (with beautiful teeth that mimic what the final case will look like) from start to finish, can be completed in fifteen to twenty minutes. Do you believe me???

Yes, it’s possible, as those of you who have attended Dr. Miller’s Over-The-Shoulder Seminar, sponsored by Becden can attest to. At this course you learn step-by-step procedures for the preparation and bonding protocols as well as proven systems for creating value, desire, and case acceptance.

By spending time with your patient to determine your end result goals, communicating that information to us at the lab, and requesting a diagnostic wax-up and impression matrix, your total chair time at the temporization stage CAN be less than twenty minutes.

Follow this protocol, which is demonstrated and taught by Dr. Miller at our seminar:

  • During preliminary visits with your patient choose the basic shape and smile design for the case. Smile design books are available from Lorin Berland, Bill Dorfman, and L.V.I., however, magazine photographs can work just as well. (You wouldn’t believe how many Brittney Spears smiles we have fabricated.)
  • Even if your patient has money in hand and can’t wait to get started, take the time to have us provide you with a diagnostic wax-up and impression matrix. This step allows you to accomplish two goals. First of all, your patient will walk out of the office “test driving” their new smile and be able to give you positive or negative feedback to use prior to completion of the final restorations. Secondly, your chair time, where you make your money, is at least cut in half by not having to do a mock-up (which don’t always look so great anyway).
  • After preparation, two impressions (remember to take two impressions so you don’t receive that dreaded lab call requesting a new one), and a stick bite, apply an anti-bacterial agent (Consepsis) to the prepared teeth and lightly dry.
  • Fill the impression matrix to the top of the tooth level with Luxatemp or Integrity and tap on the counter to avoid air bubbles. Both of these temporary materials “shrinkwrap” to the prepared teeth, prevent microleakage and sensitivity, and eliminate the need to remove and cement them.

  • Carefully insert the matrix over the prepared teeth being sure the midline is aligned. Becden now creates a notch in the matrix at the midline to facilitate placement.
  • Massage the matrix to help in preventing voids and bubbles.
  • Leave the matrix in place for the recommended setting time. Do not remove it early to prevent the temporary from coming out of the mouth.
  • After set, begin gently removing the matrix starting on one side and “wiggling” to remove. If you pull straight down there is more risk of removing the entire temporary.
  • Clean the small amount of flash around the margins and you may apply a thin coat of sealant or glaze of your choice.
  • Hand your patient a mirror and wait for the “WOW”. This is typically the most emotional part of the entire Smile Makeover since now the patient can really see what their new smile will look like.
