Long-term Becden client, Dr. Marc Schwartz, of Plantation, FL is always up for trying something new! Even after 30 years as a practicing dentist and former faculty member at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Schwartz never slows down and his passion for dentistry continues to grow. With his son, Eli, taking his dental boards this week and planning to join the practice this summer, Dr. Schwartz decided to have some fun with his existing patients to encourage referrals.

Dr. Schwartz purchased the wheel from www.prizewheel.com. He then approached several local vendors and asked for any donations they were willing in to make and filled in the remaining spaces with other small gifts he purchased. His gift choices include services everyone can enjoy such as gas cards, car wash certificates, movies cards, Barnes & Noble gift cards, dry cleaning cards — and even Free Zoom Whitening. Each new patient has the opportunity to spin the wheel, as does the referring patient. He has even changed the gifts to dollar amounts and lets his team members periodically spin for a “thank you” perk. This idea may sound a little “off the wall” for a professional dental office, but patients love it and playing the little game brings smiles to all involved, including Dr. Schwartz.
Dr. Schwartz purchased a Flat Screen TV with built in DVD player (a $700 value) and started the contest December, 2006. Every time a patient refers another patient they are eligible to put their name in the fishbowl for a drawing that will be held at the end of this month. So far he has 75 names in the bowl and since the participation has been so good he is planning to follow-up with another similar contest, saying, “If it works, I’ll continue to do it!”
The monthly number does not need to be astronomical, in fact, between 20 and 25 new patients per doctor is a healthy number. Having your new patients come into your practice as a referral has been proven over and over to increase the likelihood they will stay in the practice as well as accept your treatment recommendations, since the good things they have heard about you begin the relationship with a higher level of trust.
